The contribution of Indian spices to health benefits has been well chronicled since Vedic times. Natural ingredients from flowers, leaves, roots, bark, seeds and bulbs are used in endless combinations to produce an infinite variety of flavors -sweet, sour, spicy, aromatic, tart, mild, fragrant or pungent. Ginger helps to relieve common colds. It is known for its quick relieving effects on heartburn, nausea, upset stomach, diarrhea, motion and morning sickness. Anti-inflammatory properties of ginger make it a great natural remedy for headaches, minor body aches and even some cases of arthritis.

Turmeric has antiseptic and antibiotic properties. It is a great remedy for cold, cough and joint inflammation. It also helps in minimizing liver damages caused by excessive alcohol consumption or regular use of pain-killers.

Clove and clove oil have antiseptic and antibiotic properties and are used in medicines especially in dentistry. It has wider applications in preparations of toothpaste and mouthwashes, soaps and perfumes.

Asafoetida aids digestion. It is useful in the treatment of respiratory disorders like cough, asthma and bronchitis. It has been proven useful in the treatment of health problems concerning women such as unusually painful and excessive menstruation.

Cumin seeds have antiseptic properties that help fight cold and flu by boosting the immune system. Cumin helps relieve stomach pain, indigestion, diarrhea, nausea and morning sickness.

Cinnamon helps in treating nausea and vomiting. Cinnamon is anti-inflammatory, helps improve cardiovascular health, increases metabolic rate, helps control and regulate blood sugar, and has anti-microbial effects.

Cardamom is a great remedy for gastritis. It can help maintain healthy cholesterol level, prevent cancer, improve blood circulation, relieves muscle spasm and cardiovascular issues.  It is useful for curing dental diseases and urinary tract infections. Cardamom  is also used as a cure for impotency.

Since the sunscreens were invented, we all have become scared of sunlight. We keep protecting ourselves from sunlight by using different methods but we forget that sun is the ultimate source of energy. Sun is far, far away from us but its rays falling in 1 square meter can light 3 bulbs of 100 watts! Not only that but it is also source of our food. No sun, no food- as plants use sunlight to grow and make their food and we directly or indirectly depend on plants for our survival.

Best time to bathe in sunlight-

Avoid direct exposure between 9 AM to 4 PM. Early morning or late evenings are the best time to get expose to sunlight. World health organisation (WHO) suggests 5-15 minutes of bathing in sunlight to get the benefits of it.

Benefits of sunlight-

-          Helps make vitamin D which makes our bones stronger.

-          Uplifts your mood- as happy hormone serotonin is released when you are in sunlight.

-          You will be surprised but its true- It helps you to sleep better.

-          Helps in healing of skin wounds.

-          Studies shows less cases of cancer in people exposed to sunlight then who stays more in               darkness. So, it might help prevent cancer.

-          Improves immunity and kills bad bacteria.

-          Is known to help in regulating blood pressure.

-          Similar to the benefit of exercise, sunlight helps to deliver oxygen to body’s cells.

Start with 2-4 minutes of sun bathing. Slowly increase the timings but not more than 15 minutes at a time. Go out in sunlight and lighten your life!

We need to give time & that kind of environment to our body so that it can heal itself. Our body took 9 months to get ready & prepare itself for survival. When our body was built naturally, why not to maintain it naturally??

Our body is designed in such a way that it can heal itself. But we are so impatient that even if we sneeze, we start taking medicines so that we can prevent illness & can continue our work. In this case we are not giving enough time for body to start its own preventive & curing systems to work.

What should one do to maintain an environment which will help our body to heal faster?

1)   Food: Include more of natural & raw food in your daily diet. Eat light especially at night. Food is the fuel for our body.

4)  Exercise: we were born to move, jump, run, walk and all the possible movements you can think of. There is no excuse for exercise. It helps improve circulation which helps in healing.
